YEARLINGS: THERE IS SO MUCH TO LEARN

June Yearlings

Now that Dante and Virgil are settled in and we have rearranged the sheep and donkey accommodations to adapt to geldings and lambs it is time to turn our attention to donkey schooling in a more structured way.

The yearlings need to learn basic donkey manners like:
1. Leading respectfully with lose lead, not grabbing a mouthful, charging ahead, responding to git-up, whoa, jee (right), haw (left)
2. Gates: waiting respectfully at gates without barging out, mouthing, or biting each other
3. Haltering without fussing about ear touching
4. Hoof-Picking for longer period of time
5. Tie-up for longer period of time
6. Vehicle passing on lead by moving MUV
7. Obstacles: traversing the obstacle course of tarp and pedestal
8. Backing on command, on and off lead
9. Trotting on lead
10. Long-reining with blanket, breast and breech straps
11. Coming when called by Name
