THINGS DONKS EAT

THINGS DONKS SHOULD EAT

  1.  DONKS of all ages need fresh water. Where the winters are harsh, the water should be warmed at least twice a day or the DONK might get colic.
  2. DONKS should have access to a salt block. We have a red rock hanging from a rope in their shed.
  3. When mature donks should eat 1st cutting grassy hay. Mine prefer timothy hay mix. Alfalfa hay is considered too rich for DONKs causing them to founder.
  4. When yearlings DONKS should get a supplement. I have been using MINAVITE by Blue Seal.
  5. When yearlings or foals DONKS should get 2 rations of  prepared "Mare and Foal 16%" per day (AM and PM) or about 6 cups total = 3 lbs. The pelleted kind does not allow them to pick out the parts they like.
  6. Our yearling DONKS are grazing endophyte free fescue, ryegrass, bluegrass, clover, and mixed herbals (weeds) from May through November.
THINGS DONKS SHOULD NOT EAT

  1. DONKS should not eat the "Warning! Electrified Fence" signs that I have dutifully hung on their paddock. Nor should they eat the metal links that hold those signs there.
  2. DONKS should not eat the garden hose that supplies the automatic waterers. It is also discouraged to pull them and jerk them about.
  3. DONKS should not eat the hay twine that some Dufus forgets to put in their pocket.
  4. DONKS should not eat excessive treats but a few pieces of carrots, apple, pumpkin, orange, or horse biscuits should be provided when they are exceptionally brilliant.
  5. No medicated feeds at any time should be provided for the other residents of the donkey paddock since DONKS are poisoned by some worming medications for sheep or poultry.
